What A Day.

I’d like to apologize to everyone who was planning on attending my BarCamp RDU session on Erlang yesterday. My laptop’s hard drive decided to suddenly die (with none of the usual warning signs) midway through the morning’s first round of sessions.

I spent the rest of the day not at BarCamp as I had originally planned but instead at various hardware stores trying to score the correct size miniscule Philips and Torx bits and at Intrex picking up a new drive. By the time I had the new drive installed and Time Machine restoring my latest backup it was too late to get back to BarCamp.

On the same day the painting crew working on my house:

  1. Found substantial wood root on the back side of the garage which will require attention, aka money, before they can paint it
  2. Cut the wrong cable when removing an unused satellite dish from my roof thus killing all Internet access until I repaired said cable

I believe Saturday illustrates Fate’s sense of humor is not only cruel but also blackly ironic.

I am really glad Saturday is over.

I’m giving a similar Erlang talk at the September meeting of raleigh.rb. If you’re interested in hearing about Erlang, and feel like giving me a second chance, please consider coming out for the meeting.

  • I really looked forward to your Erlang presentation -- even bumped my OCaml presentation back later for it. I'll have to catch you in September!
  • life happens - all the time ...
