Programming As Performance Art

This is the coolest thing I’ve seen all week.

Hearing discussions occur in Hungarian(?) while the coding is done in Scheme which is ostensibly English made me wonder: Are non-native English speaking programmers are at a disadvantage or advantage relative to native English speakers?

On the one hand, the case could be made that native English speakers are more able to seamlessly translate their thoughts into code since there’s no language translation layer involved. On the other hand, one could argue that non-native English speakers are operating at a higher level of conceptual abstraction when they program and, therefore, bilingual coding demonstrates an effortless ability to translate abstract concepts into the vocabulary of choice.

I tend towards believing the latter case is true but it is an interesting point to contemplate.
